According to the report, US President Donald Trump warned Chinese President Xi Jinping against supporting Iran during talks in Washington. According to the US ambassador to China, Xi Jinping assured that China would not support Iran. The warning came after reports that Beijing had provided Iran with shoulder-fired air defense missile launchers and that Tehran had found ways to circumvent sanctions on its oil sales with China's help.

Lavrov also called on the United States to remove Cuba from the list of “state sponsors of terrorism.” In his speech, Chinese Vice President Han Deng presented China as a reliable partner on the global stage and a consistent supporter of developing countries. He said that China’s position is that all states, large or small, are equal members of the international community and that global affairs should be resolved through consultation with all countries.
