Pressure on Netanyahu increased by alleged Qatari funding of Arab parties during the elections, Israeli government coalition
Baseless allegations cannot stop Qatar from mediation efforts and humanitarian work in the region, Foreign Ministry
Jerusalem , Doha: Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's coalition has increased pressure on Arab parties during the elections by making unsubstantiated allegations of alleged Qatari funding. During this campaign, far-right politician National Security Minister Atmar Ben-Governor has also called for the arrest of Arab party leaders.
This pressure comes at a time when the chairman of the Central Elections Committee has ordered the Shin Bet to investigate suspicions of foreign funding, although a senior police official has called these claims of rigging baseless. Observers believe the campaign may be aimed at making it more difficult for the opposition to form an alliance with Arab parties. Far-right leader Atmar Ben-Governor said that if there is a legal justification, the Shin Bet should order the arrest of Arab leaders suspected of involvement in Qatari funding.
Similarly, Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich wrote on X that “the Shin Bet should question the leaders of the Arab parties today. The State of Israel will not be allowed to be sold out to radical Islam with the money of terrorism.” The ruling Likud party called the matter the “Ramgate scandal,” claiming that “this is a political earthquake.” Israel's elections have been stolen!' Likud added that after these allegations, the opposition should not cooperate with the 'United Arab List' or 'Ram' to remove Knesset Speaker Amir Ohana. On the other hand, Qatar has strongly denied allegations of any interference in the recent Israeli elections or funding for activities that influence the election results.
According to a foreign news agency, Qatar has categorically rejected these allegations, saying that these allegations are being deliberately spread by some Israeli politicians and their affiliated media outlets. Such baseless allegations cannot prevent Qatar from advancing its ongoing mediation efforts and diplomatic and humanitarian work in the region.
